In this edition, I'm going to show off all the variant covers I made for issue 10, and I'll give you some info on why they didn't make the cut. this first image is the main four covers for issue 10. A. this was going to be the cover for a very long time, and also features the waterfall demon, Cousin to Lennoard of Vysarrh; Lenny to his friends. it also features an older version of Bartram. B. same cover again.... i really like this one, and hated to give it up, the only change here is that bartram has been updated. ultimately this design was dropped since the demon was no longer as prominent in the story as he was in the plot. C. I loved this design. and did lots of variations(see image 2). this one i gave up on because it looked to batmanish. and I ended up settling on D. the final cover. I ended up using this one because Kailyn looked more uncomfortable in this one than she did in the previous one. now because I'm nice I'm also giving you the alternate cover for 13, wich is basically the same cover but with a book texture over the top. oh, and just because you wont see the full version of this sketch anywhere else, ZOMBIE KAILYN!!! booyaH! Cheers Ryan 12 comments | Write Comment | (more images) March 05, 2007 The Second Azerath Trade by Daniel LWARNING: THIS THREAD MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR ISSUES OF AZERATH NOT YET RELEASED! With issue 14 already wrapped and away its about time for us to ponder what exactly should go into the second Azerath collected edition. As always with collected editions there are a couple of pages from the individual issues we like to remove, and some bits we didn't have space for that we'd like to put back in. We've talked it through and here are our thoughts on what we'd like to include in the second Azerath trade. The list isn't really in any order, but is just a rough guide. We also gave no thought at all for how many pages it should have, only for what we thought would make the best compilation. We were also trying for a book that felt the same as the first collected edition when you were reading it. Should there be anything you guys (as readers) would like to see feel free to make suggestions. If we were compiling it alone right now, here's what we'd put in: 1 page cover - Front cover 1 page - Introduction/forward? ( A STORY SO FAR? ) 1 page - Credits page 1 page - chapter 9 page 1 page - splash 22pages - issue9 1 page - chapter 10 page 31pages - issue10 1 page - chapter 11 page 22pages - issue11 1 page - chapter 12 page 23pages - issue12 1 page - chapter 13 page 23pages - issue13 1 page - chapter 14 page 24pages - issue 14 1 page - The Life Cycle of the Wood Nymph (from issue 12) 1 page - Bartram's "About the Author" Page (From issue 10) 1 page cover - Back cover Not Yet Complete(or atleast stuff that has never been printed): 6 pages - character pages (Leargo, Baelkin, Khennedie, The Medusa Librarian, Old Father Niblunge,Pirate captain) 2 page spread - A bit like the story of Turmon from the first collected edition. Our first inkling was to tell a random story about the early days of Death and his Metatron. At the moment though we're leaning away from that and thinking we'd rather tell the story of Mavio and the merchant sailors. Its story that we've touched on but haven't really shared. 6-8 pages of backup comic story - We know which bits we'd like to do for here, but we're keeping them to ourselves for now just to hear ideas of what other people would like to see. So is that everything? Is there anything anyone would particularly like to see? Did we miss something that is vitally important to this collected edition? Our count would make that 174 pages(I'm not counting the 2 blank pages inside the cover.) but we don't do math particularly well and we've got a complete disregard for what length these books should be. cheers, Daniel and Ryan. 10 comments | Write Comment November 16, 2006 MAKING A COVER by RWHOORAY! the time has come for the fourth (thats right, FOURTH) reprint of issue 1 of a little book I have some connection with called Azerath. Anyway, I decided to treat everyone with my terrible drawing secrets...OF DOOM! * First Up, I'm going to show some sketches of various layouts and ideas. * Followed closely by rough pencils of the final design * then the Details Pencils.. now you'll probably look at what I call Detailed pencils and say"wheres the details... thats just a sketch of a bunny" and you'd be right... had I drawn a bunny. but since I am drawing, Inking and colouring the cover, the detail usually goes in while I'm inking, and you can see that image when i finish it and post it in all it's black and whitey goodness. Enjoy... stay tuned for Chapter the Deus 20 comments | Write Comment | (more images) November 06, 2006 Plushies, Plushies, Everywhere... by RWAllow myself to introduce... An annual awards-giving is extremely valuable to the Australian industry, though we've gone round and round the debate again and again if there even is an industry, but a sure-fire way to check if an industry exists is to ask "does it have any annual awards", and so we're thankful that we do. The Ledgers. But now after two years of running the awards himself, Gary's asking for support and ideas. To be honest, I can't see any more worthy time for our government or council of the arts to step in when it comes to supporting the position of Australian comics, but it's more likely that for now people with a closer vested interest are going to be the ones that keep this thing going. New Zealand have recently started their own annual awards .... sponsored by their premier comic shop, Gotham Comics. There was a simple, but real ceremony held in conjunction at the Armageddon pulp culture expo. Maybe gaining the financial support of the major Aussie comic shops would be a good move for the Ledgers? Maybe holding a ceremony at Supanova could be another good thing? I'm hoping PC can help but I'm not quite sure how yet. Any other ideas? 3 comments | Write Comment | (more images) November 04, 2006 Devoured at Armageddon... by superchampPC returned to New Zealand last month for Auckland's 11th annual Armageddon Expo. Always an awe-inspiring event, this year it attracted just shy of 30,000 visitors, there to see all the latest and greatest in pop culture entertainment. Both Daniel Lawson (Azerath) and Paul Abstruse (WitchKing) came with to man the PC stand and meet their NZ fans. It was a great weekend, to say the least. Thanks go out to Daniel, the weekend's official photographer. We appreciate you being there more than you know. And to Paul - it was great to see us finally take WitchKing to New Zealand and sell so many. Thanks for your infectious enthusiasm. And special thanks to NZ's one and only Jimbo, in whose writing skills we trust, for your help and for always looking the right way. Some pics from Auckland's Armageddon 2006 below. More on request. [Pic 1 - Paul's enthusiasm for New Zealand reaches a high as he wipes out the competition in Armageddon's inaugural Pizza Eating Contest... The competion was easy this time, but check out that kid next door; he's bound to be a future winner.] [Pic 2 - Paul and Jimbo with Witch King at the PC stand. Watch for that glass eye!] 10 comments | Write Comment | (more images) September 25, 2006 What to do with Phosphorescent Comics? by PCAlright! A brand new forum! And soon to come a new website. But enough! These forums are most likely just temporary until we establish the right way to proceed. We need your help. Basically these (probably temporary) forums are here for your ideas and comments. How would you suggest we re-boot this comic book company??? 30 comments | Write Comment |
