After a preliminary beta-testing phase, our new Online Reader has been made live today! The Online Reader is a Flash-based interface hosted in conjunction with Titles.com.au. Rather than being an interface for 'webcomics', the Reader has been designed to simulate (as close as can be) a real comic or magazine reading experience. It is expected that the Reader will eventually offer online versions of magazines and books, as well as comics. The first story to be made available for viewing on the Reader is The Watch: Cathexes #1, the first part in the fourth volume of our ongoing supers title The Watch. Cathexes is a previously unpublished series which we'd initially hoped would debut in print, but during the production of the series our direction has turned more towards the construction of new opportunities for the business such as the development of new print titles and online content including the Reader itself, so Cathexes has become the perfect way to kick things off for the Reader! The three 22 page parts of The Watch: Cathexes will be released monthly throughout early 2007. In addition to Cathexes, Azerath#1, the first issue of the acclaimed 20+ issue series by Daniel Lawson (writer) and Ryan Wilton (artist) has also been made available for online viewing! The online comics are currently free to view. The only requirement is that users will need to have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed. All are invited to visit www.phosphorescent.net to read Cathexes and other titles to follow. Planned content from PC for the Online Reader includes:
More announcements to be made as further details of content become confirmed. The Watch Cathexes #1 of 3 January 2007 Writing: Christian Read, Art: Paul Abstruse, Colours: Annette Kwok Jack Hawkins is owner and CEO of The Watch Inc and a rich and powerful man. But a rogue member from The Watch's earliest incarnation believes he knows who Jack really is. That rogue is known as The Fisher and in this action-filled new chapter he will stop at nothing to uncover the truths of Jack's past. Part #2 with art by Nicola Scott is due in February and part #3 with art by Jason Badower is due in March. Several key features, such as online comics are still under development but the new site is already easier to maintain and more informational than previous iterations. Along with more direct links to news and new releases, we also have a creator blog feature whereby we will get running commentaries directly from the creators and editors of the latest books published by PC, with previews of work in progress and previously unpublished art that did not make its way into final production! An online store functionality will be added soon, until then you'll have to talk with your comic shop the old way to get our books (or visit www.phasetwocomics.com)! PC has several ambitious new internal projects under development (to be announced soon) but with much energy we plan to apply a large amount of focus towards the development of new creator-owned projects. You see, we believe that more creator involvement and control is a key to a successful and fun publishing future for all! This is exactly the kind of discussion that you're invited to join in on, so head on over to the new PC forum and get involved! As with all news items, we appreciate your feedback and comments. 0 comments | Write Comment |
